Cleveland firefighters provide fire education speakers for schools, day care centers, senior centers, and employers and also appear at career days. The 32 foot Smoke House is a mobile version of a home which uses non-toxic smoke and an alarm system to teach children how to escape a home fire. Uncovering Functional Illiteracy in Cleveland

Our volunteer tutors are truly the heart of Seeds of Literacy. Our tutors have the patience, kindness, passion, and skill to help change our community one adult learner at a time. Tutors need to be at least years old and have at least a high school or high school equivalency degree.

The first step to joining us as a tutor is to attend a training session. The observation is an opportunity for you to attend a class, shadow a current tutor, and see the information from the training in action. Seeds West W. We offer a flexible class schedule with sessions held throughout the day to accommodate personal preference and availability. Seeds West Monday-Thursday a. Seeds East Monday-Thursday a. No Friday class. Our program is specially designed to meet the varying needs of each individual student.

Every student is learning a subject at their own skill level and at their own pace, and we extend the same flexible class schedule to our students as we do to our tutors.

Our Site Coordinator, who oversees the class session, will pair up a student looking for a help with an available tutor who is comfortable working on that subject. With our non-traditional class structure, it can be tricky to visualize what tutoring with Seeds of Literacy will actually look like. Where you attend training does not affect where you tutor. You may tutor at whichever location you prefer Seeds East currently has the greater need.
